Frequently Asked Questions

What is a Tribe?

A Tribe is a group of people that come together to support a loved one in a time of crisis. Tribes can be comprised of friends, family members, acquaintances, friends of friends, etc. As the Tribe evolves, the personal networks of each of the Tribe Members can become Tribe Members as well. Human Tribe Project was founded upon the premise that all people belong to a larger Tribe, and that this Tribe can be a powerful resource when one of its members faces a personal or health-related crisis.

Who is a Beneficiary?

A Beneficiary is an individual experiencing a crisis who is in need of both emotional and financial support from his or her Tribe. A crisis might be medical in nature, such as cancer, disease or premature birth, or the crisis might be the result of natural disaster or financial hardship. Anyone in crisis qualifies as a Beneficiary.

Who is a Tribe Leader?

The Tribe Leader is typically a friend or family member of the Beneficiary, and is the individual that establishes and updates the Tribe Page. The Beneficiary can also serve as the Tribe Leader.

What is a Tribe Page?

A Tribe Page is a personalized webpage designed to help a Beneficiary communicate with and receive support from his or her Tribe during a crisis. Typically, the Tribe Leader or the Beneficiary will create the Tribe Page. Both may update the Tribe Page as frequently as they choose. Tribe Pages can incorporate the Beneficiary’s story, a blog chronicling his journey, photos, the Guestbook for Tribe Members to post words of encouragement and the Tribe Tag Store to raise money for the Beneficiary.

What is a blog?

Each Tribe Page will contain a blog, or online diary, in which entries are stored in reverse chronological order. Unlike an email, a blog offers the benefit of addressing a large number of people with one written entry. A Beneficiary can post one blog and immediately and simultaneously reach every member of her Tribe. Only invited Tribe Members will have access to the blog.

What is a Guestbook?

Each Tribe Page will contain a Guestbook. Invited Tribe Members will be able to post their thoughts and words of encouragement to and for the Beneficiary on the Guestbook.

If a Beneficiary has no financial burdens, he or she may donate the money or otherwise use the money in any way he or she sees fit.
