Exactly one month after turning 32, I found a lump in my right breast while in the shower :( I was 33 weeks pregnant as a gestational surrogate and terrified. I had a physical exam, an ultrasound and a biopsy within 2 weeks and was then given the diagnosis of Stage IIb breast cancer. I was able to deliver at 37 weeks (to a healthy and beautiful baby girl!) on June 1st. I then had a lumpectomy on June 4th but the surgeon was unable to get clear margins and I also had a positive lymph node so it was recommended to have a mastectomy. I chose to have a bilateral mastectomy and it was done on June 16th.
Chemotherapy started shortly thereafter on July 6th. I am happy to report that I just completed my final session this week (10/20)! I was fortunate and had VERY minimal side effects!
I will be starting daily radiation treatments in 3 weeks (11/11)
My family and friends have been a HUGE support for me during this time. Jake, the kids and myself could have never gotten this far without you all!
