Kelly Muscarello is my sister-in-law. She has been with our family in one way or another for 12 years. Things haven't always been perfect, but she has consistently shown everyone around her the meaning of rolling up your sleeves and getting your hands dirty for a greater cause. This greater cause has typically been my brother's kids. Although these kids aren't her flesh and blood, they may as well be because of all the love, discipline, attention, and compassion she has shown them. I can't prove it, but I think she somehow made my brother's relationship with our parents better. I know that she has made his life better and she is a saint for putting up with him. ;-P

That said, Kelly was diagnosed with lupus and diabetes. After dealing with those ailments (often with a smile!) for years, she learned in 2006 that one of her kidneys was failing and she would need a transplant. Thankfully, she appears to have found a willing donor who is a match for her. In comparison to what's next for her and my brother, I think that was the easy part. Although she has insurance, this surgery is going to cost her and my brother at least $30k. They have planned ahead the best they could, but $30k is a lot of money to plan for and I know they will need help covering not only the surgery, but the crazy expenses incurred when you go through something like this.
